Yeh, all a bit farcical and far-fetched with people just popping down sinkholes. I guess all the darkness and the rain lessens the impact of any dodgy-looking effects.

There has been some good recent story-driven build-up, but for me, this is about spectacle rather than storytelling and kind of takes you out of the programme.

I hope that someone makes Amy's film idea about a vengeful slasher Santa now Wink

Also, I don't know if anyone else noticed, but the animation on the ITV Studios endcap had been "smoothed" as well as the opening titles.

Also, a theory of mine:

Either the gun going through the sewers has wiped Abi's fingerprints, so making it hard to trace the gun to her, or the fact Cory held it and got his fingerprints on it will complicate things and make it seem like he could have been the one who obtained the gun. Either way, Abi won't be punished for it.

Also as one of the filming photos I saw a few weeks ago showed Kelly being beaten while taking a walk, that suggests that these events will lead to her being released. Whether Cory gets sent down in her place we'll have to see.

Less daft tonight; Kirk's miracle waterproof bandages and Dev aside.

David Neilson is my Star of the Week; Sally Carman a close and highly-worthy second.

Is there supposed to be a high profile death as a result of this week?

A prediction:

It's obviously being sign posted to be Johnny.

1. He's already announced he's leaving
2. He's declared his love for Jenny
3. His character doesn't really have a purpose anymore
4. He's gone into the Corrie sinkhole abyss

It may be a red herring, but Corrie don't exactly do subtle when it comes to these things.

This genuinely isn’t meant as hyperbole at all, but I think David Neilson is one of Britain’s finest character actors. For an offbeat character, Roy is totally believable and understated with a great deal of depth.

There’s no comparison between him and over-played, cartoony characters like Brian Packham and Mary (although I’ll admit Mary gets some good lines).

Roy is one of the reasons I still watch Corrie despite so much preposterousness like this week’s events.

I think they might be making it too obvious for that to be the case... but then you never know.

I agree, always totally believable even when surrounded by a load of craziness. A wonderfully developed character and always a class performance, long may he continue!

Another theory …

It will be Natasha who dies. She was stuck in traffic so Nick asked Leanne to dress up instead. The theory is that Natasha will make it back and will be in her costume identical to Leanne’s, and Harvey will shoot her in a case of mistaken identity. Sounds possible …

Coronation Street - DavidWhitfield - 21-10-2021

Oh, that's very clever, jacobmorton ...

That seems very plausible and would give a reason to the 'Natasha being stuck in traffic' scenes which are, at present, of no consequence to the chaos unfolding on the street. Not long to wait to find out!

Coronation Street - James2001 - 21-10-2021

I'd never have even thought of that, but it seems very logical, buy yourself a drink if it turns out to be correct!

Deirdre Barlow and Maud Grimes. Brilliant. (Is this a real song?)

According to a reply in the YouTube comments, the song is called Sing Me A Memory by Neil Sean. And yes, it would appear to be that Neil Sean who used to do the showbiz updates on Sky News. Apparently it was going to be released in 1997 for Corrie’s Viva Las Vegas VHS special.

This is exactly what I thought after I read the articles/Tweets suggesting it (but would never have thought of it myself which I think is what the Corrie bosses intended). I reckon you're very likely to be right.
There is a spoiler for Friday (or Monday) which says Nick will discover something at the flat, which makes it even more likely.

Coronation Street - Spencer - 22-10-2021

Incidentally, do you think we’ll ever find out what Ray Crosby’s mate [the one he knew would be dispatched by the water company when the Platts phoned them, even though he didn’t actually work for the water company] did to deliberately cause the Platt’s sinkhole in the first place, which has now led to all these other holes appearing? Or are we supposed to have forgotten about that?
