Yup, north of the border in Canada, CBC's ratings are down...

Obviously, Canada's more into the Winter games than the Summer, although they, like here in the States have suffered for similar reasons like politics & the lack of star power. Not having the NHL players for hockey in these games hurts as well.

The streaming factor should not be underestimated either. Indeed that worries me with the next rights deal that even if the BBC/EBU could deliver a knockout bid, which seems unlikely, I suspect the IOC will see having the sort of presence in the streaming realm that Discovery+ gives them is just as important as the FTA coverage.

2022 Winter Olympics - DamC - 18-02-2022

Especially after the possible Discovery+/HBO Max merger... it's going to become a huge platform with way more exposure than Discovery+.

I thought it was odd that tomorrow the Gold Medal Match was at 06:05 and the bronze at 12:05, with 12:05 being a better timeslot for Europe and Canada I'd have thought.

Might encourage a change to BBC1. I assume the two stream deal with Discovery would prevent them showing it live in full on BBC2 but with Breakfast dipping in to coverage.

P.S. A change of commentators for the final perhaps:

No, the Closing Ceremonies will be streamed live (commentator-free!!) here in the States on Peacock, but NBC will broadcast it on a tape delay in primetime at 8 Eastern/5 Pacific.

Peak of 1.7m (avg 1.3m) for yesterdays lunchtime curling.

And now in the women's Curling, the women have made the final which is scheduled to be in the early hours of Sunday Morning our time, so that's at least two medals for Team GB. Also, I enjoyed the video of the Curling and Snowboarding commentary being mixed together.

This trend probably would have occured regardless, but I guess Canada not being in the top 10 of the medal table would have certainly exasperated it. At least the UK viewing figures (if following the same theory) will have an uptick at the end of the Games now.

It was all down to Hazel's lucky jumper from 2002!

I have really enjoyed the virtual set this time around - much better than the previous UK-based Winter Olympics studio for Pyeongchang

Looks like rather than just switching Breakfast with the Olympic coverage in the morning they've decided just to switch coverage to BBC1 an hour earlier at 9am, meaning just as the match reaches it's climax they'll be a channel change - and I suspect a nice peak audience.

The previous Beijing Olympics possibly (2008)?

2022 Winter Olympics - UTVLifer - 18-02-2022

Looking ahead to the final weekend, tomorrow will be the last day of these games for Hazel, JJ and Aimee as everything winds down ahead of the Closing Ceremony on Sunday

Ayo will be doing the final overnight shift on Sunday morning, and (as is tradition, with the last day always throwing up some weird slots) Jeanette will then be doing almost double her usual shift from 6:00 until just after 11 on Sunday (entirely on BBC Two) ahead of Clare taking over for the review programme on BBC One at 11:15 ahead of the Closing Ceremony.

Tomorrow will also be the last Winter Olympics Extra, however there will be one final highlights show on Sunday evening after the Closing Ceremony

I totally agree as it is probably going to be Team GB's biggest chance of a gold medal during this games. However, I cannot remember the last time Breakfast aired on BBC2.
2 December 2017, due to the Rugby League World Cup on BBC One.
