W to go free-to-air - JK1985 - 16-02-2022 If Neighbours does get a new home on W, you can be assured that BBC Studios would make sure the deal would be worth far less than what Channel 5 were paying. Maybe a budget cut would be part of a deal for W to get Neighbours, and have it air free to air to UK viewers? W to go free-to-air - zeebre12 - 16-02-2022 You'd wonder why they have never/are not doing anything with Eden? It really seems to be an outlier and is forgot about. It has no first-run shows and has just reruns on loop. It's ratings are a lot worse than all the other UKTV channels. W to go free-to-air - Brekkie - 16-02-2022 Not too surprising - effectively replaces Really after the sale to Discovery, which I suspect came with conditions over how soon they could launch additional FTA channels. Hope they rebrand it though - W is a pretty weak brand. Does that just leave Gold and Alibi then as their pay channels. I doubt Sky are willing to pay much now to keep such channels behind a paywall. Agreed, W is such a dull, nothing brand. UKTV have had no idea what to call/do with this channel going back to the Watch days. Watch was also a terrible name too, several Watch rebrands then all they could come up with was 'W' for the current channel name. Tbh, UKTV would be smart now to rebrand all 7 channels under the 'UK......" prefix or 'UKTV.......' again. UK Gold, UK Drama are two easy ones to rename but then again we're back to what on earth to call 'W' as UK W or UKTV W is terrible....(as bad as UKTV G2+1)! Another easy one, Eden to UK Earth, based on BBC Earth branding, Yesterday could be UK Knowledge....oh here's a thought how about UKTV First based on BBC First for W? But yes, a 'W' rebrand is urgently needed, and all 7 UKTV channels based on the BBC Studios International channel brands would be a interesting option for getting BBC Studios channels into the British Market without using the BBC brand. If they're replacing a timeshift channel, they'd probably go for Yesterday+1, which airs for 2 hours a day... for Teleshopping. Unless something's wrong on my end.

It doesn't have a great deal of identity as it is, and I'd argue all three of the Watch rebrands were stronger, so having it branded with UKTV could be beneficial if they can't think of a new, better name. Heck, even reverting it to Watch wouldn't be the worst idea. W to go free-to-air - London Lite - 16-02-2022 W has had some half decent docs on, but it's never first on my radar. The most I've watched on there is Outnumbered repeats! W to go free-to-air - dbl - 16-02-2022 Ballyboy post_id=68788 time= user_id=982 Wrote:A bit unrelated. What type of channel is really?. W to go free-to-air - Rick - 16-02-2022 Great to see another channel go FTA, but this would be a great time to rebrand it to maximise impact when it appears. W is such a strange and silly name for a TV channel. Yes, so is Dave but they made it work and it turned out to be very clever. What have they ever done similarly with W to match? Not a thing. |
