Possible BBC Elstree Centre sale - valley - 11-08-2021 Out of interest I gather that Elstree D, the only commercially-available studio at Elstree Centre, is not very busy compared to TC1 or Elstree 8 / 9... a slightly awkward shape and I've heard people say the facilities aren't as good as people are expecting nowadays. I know at least one production who have delayed filming so they could use Studioworks-run 8 or 9 over the road at Elstree Studios rather than use D. Surely licence fee payers should have a say on this and whether it is economically justifiable for the corporation to be selling its real estate and then leasing back parts of the land that they just sold off. Nope, don't read the Daily Mail. Please don't jump to conclusions based on whatever generalisations you've conjured up in your head. And no, I'm not talking about the BBC contacting people per say, but rather they should perhaps devote a feature to it on their Points of View programme, or maybe The Media Show on BBC Radio 4. Of course the corporation does not have to do that, but is it any wonder people feel the BBC is out of touch and not being completely open about its activities of late? In any case, some people on Twitter are questioning whether the BBC is fit to produce the programme at all, as apparently (I don't watch it) the quality has nosedived of late. https://twitter.com/MrDobbs2/status/1425465355842080776 Of course, let's not forget what happened with Crossroads all those years ago: https://twitter.com/motelcrossroads/status/1425489878704402437 Possible BBC Elstree Centre sale - all new Phil - 11-08-2021 BettyS post_id=33732 time= user_id=1139 Wrote:So that nice building plot with the present set on it looks very handy for a sale - there's a surprise. Oh yes, the great informed. Leave everything to Twitter. God save us. Possible BBC Elstree Centre sale - soupie - 11-08-2021 I know this is an Elstree not EE thread….and agree there are Crossroads parallels with EE, but would say EE means more to the BBC currently than Crossroads did to ITV/Central in the 80s. EE reaches a certain demographic who might not watch much else of BBC One. But if some of these proposed new regions-set serials do turn out to take off it’ll be squeaky bum time for Walford. As Brekkie says, this is very common in commercial and retail property. Many big companies including Next, BP and Sainsbury's have all recently sold property like head offices, warehouses or stores to investors for millions to then lease them back. Obviously you have to get the terms right so you're not paying through the nose in rent forever more, but there are definite pros and cons. So people who watch the programme are not allowed to give their opinion on it? Where would you like us to get our reviews from instead, The Guardian presumably? Possible BBC Elstree Centre sale - BettyS - 11-08-2021 Having looked at this further, The story appears to be one of those slow news days and tabloid media hype. Well EastEnders managed to last 20 years before Twitter came along, I'm sure it could cope without it. Anyway the point was Twitter as a whole, not just the opinions towards one show. I hear productions saying that Elstree 8 and 9 facilities are totally rundown and unfit for purpose - a major refit would be due very soon if they want to continue.. Elstree D Seems to be much preferered by freelancers I talk to. Ultimately Studioworks are focusing on Reading and Glasgow as their new bases so apart from TVC and George Lucas you can expect other sites to be phased out I reckon. It does seem like that is what Studioworks is gravitating towards. Possible BBC Elstree Centre sale - XIII - 11-08-2021 The idea the BBC should have a Points of Views type programme for selling studios or property is possibly the craziest suggestion I've seen in some time and there has been many on this place and the blue place. |
