Over the last few years it seems that it's been hijacked by artists trying to score political points and make statements. I know it's been there on and off all the time but it's got worse in recent years.

I've only just put it on and already had two things to feature like you mention, health care workers pay and hiv/aids.

Both very worthy causes, but isn't this music awards, it's happening more and more with these types of shows/platforms. Artists now feel the need to have an agenda within their speech which I find such a turn off

I'm glad I didn't stick it on now. I have a real issue with this. It should be about the music. Have we not had a depressing enough time since the last Brits? Can't we just celebrate our rich music industry? Artists have Twitter as well as their own songs if they want to make political statements. Tonight should be about the music.
It was all about the music. The statements were very much justified and had their place, as they always have at every single addition of the Brits. Excellent show, you missed out.

When anyone uses the word "woke", that instantly tells you their opinion isn't worth anything.

Boring woke watch aside I'm just always amazed at the complete lack of self awareness people have when they move into middle age and get so genuinely angry at the youth culture that isn't for them anymore. It stands to reason that if you loved the Brits in 1994 then you're probably not going to love it in 2021. Accept you're ageing and get over yourselves

Oh, I hear people all the time stating that today's music (and in fact most music made after their teens) is awful and the music they grew up with was the best era of music, and saying it as if it's an authoritative and objective opinion. And of course you can guarantee their parents said the same things to them, and their parents to them, ad infinitum.

Following the TOTP threads on DS ever since the BBC4 repeats began, it's an attitude see all the time as the years move on, people stating that the show is reaching the era that the music became "rubbish", new posters joining the threads saying that the same era is actually the peak era for music, then a few years later those same posters are telling us we're now in an era where the music got rubbish and the cycle continues.

I consciously stay away from that. While I freely admit I don't have much time for modern music, I'll also happily admit it's just my opinion and down to times and tastes changing and me not moving with them, not that the music itself is bad. Funnily enough the era pretty much anyone you ask will insist when music was "at its best" will be when they were in their early-mid teens, maybe late teens at a push, and it's when they reached their late teens/early 20s when they'll tell you music started going downhill.

It is true that you're going to look far more fondly on the music you grew up with than the music of today. I have a soft spot still for the Spice Girls, Britpop, the big dance/house club classics of the 90's. But that's the era I grew up in. I'm sure if I was a teen now I'd be equally enthused about Billie Eilish or Stormzy.

The transition from the pre-recorded intro into the actual live part of Dua Lipa’s performance was very cleverly done.

Like the set - very Eurovision with the big LED backdrop.

"Boring Woke Watch" ends here. Back on topic please...

The 'Live' DOG looked like something from the late 70s using Letraset on a card shot by a black and white caption camera, and keyed in without any processing

The Brit Awards 2021 - Brekkie - 12-05-2021

The LIVE DOG was hideous. Graphics and set though were pretty decent.

From a covid point of view what seems dumb is the audience were allowed to mix but backstage social distancing was in play to such an extent acts couldn't even have dressing rooms and basically had to be driven from hotels to appear on stage.

In that Dua Lipa clip there's more than a bit of physical contact going on between her and the dancers, which I found odd.

I suppose she and her dancers were in the same "Covid bubble" and had to be tested regularly ? I hope...

Almost certainly.

As soon as the performance ended the presenter thanked her and her 'bubble'.

The Brit Awards 2021 - James Martin - 12-05-2021

Great, but what is a bubble? I take a bubble to mean they've all been living in the same accommodation with each other for two weeks - I'm guessing that might not actually be how it works?
