BBC Three - Robert Williams - 25-11-2021 Sweetcorn post_id=55176 time= user_id=2060 Wrote:BBC 3 more expensive to keep as channel broadcasting than keeping it online only . The additional cost will surely be relatively small - BBC Three's content budget (£72.5 million) is not increasing, and the BBC has spare bandwidth available each evening from 9pm. It would seem to make a lot more sense to use that bandwidth to transmit programming that is already being created, rather than wasting it on an animated downtime caption for CBBC as it has done so for nearly six years. BBC Three - Ash101 - 25-11-2021 I’m not sure about many BBC One airings now, as the BBC Press article states that commissions will have unlimited airings on BBC Three for the first 18 months. Fees for other channels https://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/2021/bbc-three-return-to-tv-screens-confirmed BBC Three - London Lite - 25-11-2021 I was one of the supporters of BBC Three coming off linear, but clearly the iPlayer project didn't work as well as the BBC thought, so it's right to ensure that the target audience have the opportunity to watch their content on a linear channel again instead of late night slots on BBC One. The BBC Three project proved that we need a multi-platform presence which includes VOD and linear to ensure the largest reach possible for shows provided by PSBs. BBC Three - JetixFann450 - 25-11-2021 I'd argue that if BBC wanted the "online-only" BBC Three to succeed, they should've looked at primarily online destinations like Funk.net and potentially thought about tapping into the growing market of Twitch and YouTube (as the recent relaunch of G4 has done), as they could've easily streamed content on there. BBC Three - Roger Darthwell - 25-11-2021 This leaves just one last question, you see before the closure BBC Three was also available in the Republic of Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland. Now the question is, will the relaunched channel going to be available in these countries once again as it was before 2016? Will BBC Three need a licence in Luxembourg in order to be allowed to be carried in these countries (just like BBC1, BBC2 and BBC4)? But the fact the licence fee isn't going to be around forever, or big hits like drag race UK still manage to become hits without a BBC 3 tv channel should be stepping towards more online less focus on the need for tv channels. Honestly doubt any good ratings for live tv output for bbc3 it's target Audience is the online generation. BBC 3 will just be filled with USA acquisitions to fill slots. BBC needs a plan for a none license fee future and using BBC 3 online only actually seemed to be heading in right direction as a subscription based service , putting BBC 3 back as a tv channel is just taking steps backwards stuck in the past. Tv channels are fading the shares are down yearly BBC Three - BBCMeridian - 25-11-2021 Sweetcorn post_id=55217 time= user_id=2060 Wrote:Well I think most people who says we need BBC Three back on tv suggests otherwise, we need linear tv, not just online tv, and as some people say, it's more expensive watching stuff on Netflix than watching a tv channel.London Lite post_id=55197 time= user_id=953 Wrote:I was one of the supporters of BBC Three coming off linear, but clearly the iPlayer project didn't work as well as the BBC thought, so it's right to ensure that the target audience have the opportunity to watch their content on a linear channel again instead of late night slots on BBC One. BBC Three - GraemeT - 25-11-2021 Is there anything wrong with some imports on bbc. I’d rather have a little less original - and what is is great - and then of with some good imports. If people tuning in for those imports then spill into more original audience A that’s surely a winner BBC Three - tellyblues - 26-11-2021 Brekkie post_id=55135 time= user_id=976 Wrote:tellyblues post_id=55124 time= user_id=1333 Wrote:Still not sure about this. The remit allows the BBC to be far too flexible and reliant on repeats.I think it has to be for the channel to work - better repeat high quality content than commission cheap content to fill the hours. What's to say that repeats will be high quality? There's an assumption going around that the archive which has been built up online is some untouched treasure chest but content will always find an audience if it's good enough. BBC3 returning to linear and us not exactly being inundated with news of commissions being massive hits over the last five years indicates that most of the content isn't high quality. That the channel has been pushed through without too much bother I think is as much down to misinformation from the BBC and apathy from the target audience than an actual appetite for the channel. Launch night will be mostly new content but months down the line the schedules will be completely different and what will the BBC's response be to those who complain? "We told you so"? Technically correct but in many ways not so much. Regardless, it still doesn't change the fact why programmes aimed at a younger audience can't go on BBC1 or BBC2. Regular viewers may not like it? Tough. As long as BBC1/2 are referred to as the main channels then it's an insult that a particular demographic isn't catered for and has to make do with a part-time channel filled mostly with repeats. BBC Three - GraemeT - 26-11-2021 What’s the target age for Bbc3 Itv2 E4 Are they published anywhere? BBC Three - dbl - 26-11-2021 GraemeT post_id=55262 time= user_id=1404 Wrote:What’s the target age for 16-34 BBC Three - Brekkie - 26-11-2021 Although E4's actual average age is 42, which I guess is not surprising considering that's the average age of the generation who grew up with it. https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/shortcuts/2017/mar/29/a-dying-habit-why-the-average-bbc1-viewer-is-61 BBC Three - Keith - 26-11-2021 I think the return of BBC Three is good if it then allows BBC Two to refocus itself as has been previously proposed. I can't find the exact article though I noticed a Guardian article from March it seems to suggest the original BBC Four content will move onto BBC Two. I dare say by BBC Four becoming an archive channel it makes it easier if they wish to close it in future, as they could claim 'more people accessing archive content via the iPlayer'. BBC Three - Brekkie - 26-11-2021 Although it has the same issue with CBeebies needing the daytime stream anyway, so not much point in dead air in the evening. I don't know but I suspect the archive content may be doing better for BBC4 anyway - they're keeping things quite simple with films on Thursdays, comedy on Tuesdays for example alongside the long established music on Fridays and foreign drama on Saturdays, which IMO makes it easy for them to pick up viewers who previously probably never gave the channel a look. BBC Three - JAS84 - 26-11-2021 Now that BBC One has picked up Superman & Lois, maybe they should consider getting old seasons of the other Arrowverse shows (Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl - there's Batwoman as well but that's already on E4)? They'd fit in on BBC Three and it'd be a significant amount of related content for iPlayer. |
