BBC Three - Dogorilla - 21-11-2021

I suspect the BBC will be worried about putting too many repeats on BBC3 in case the target audience isn't interested in older programmes. But as a member of the target age group myself, I was a bit too young for BBC3 when it was originally on (the only thing I can remember watching on it is Doctor Who repeats) so I wouldn't be opposed to some old programmes being shown again (just not at the expense of new productions, obviously).

By the way, with Russell T Davies returning to Doctor Who in 2023, is there any chance of Doctor Who Confidential coming back on BBC3? I don't know how much RTD was involved with Confidential or if he'd be interested in bringing it back, but I think if anyone were to bring it back it would be him.

I doubt it - those sort of weekly companion shows have somewhat gone out of fashion in terms of being on TV anyway. At best it would be a podcast on BBC Sounds I imagine.

It's true you don't see them as much these days but doesn't Disney+ do making-of documentaries for a lot of their original series? I think RTD said something about Doctor Who having to compete with Marvel shows these days so it's possible he could take inspiration from them in that regard (though I'm sure it wouldn't be a top priority or anything). A podcast is definitely possible too.

Doctor who confidential had run it course though when it got axed. Only so many times you can show how they did the special effects and how the stunt team managed to do what they did. Unlike Doctor who itself it also had very little repeat value and even had to be edited down to 15 minutes so no I don’t see it retuning.

A podcast very similar to the line of duty podcast is probably a lot more likely and better value for money.

BBC Three - Brekkie - 22-11-2021

Quite surprised there isn't something on Sounds already actually but that is probably quite telling in itself. Just think every penny allocated to Doctor Who is swallowed up by the show itself now rather.

Suspect though there will be a special on BBC1 to announce the next Doctor again.

There are these 'Behind the Scenes' videos on the Doctor Who YouTube channel. They're not really behind the scenes to the level of Doctor Who Confidential - there's a few shots of filming with green screen in the example below but they are mainly the cast and senior crew talking to camera about the characters, plot and fellow actors. So there is something there albeit not as in depth as there once was and if there was a desire for Confidential to return I 'd think that a beefed up version of these might be what's seen.

Of course the best/most frequent use of Confidential was the ability to make one epsiode of the show into an hour long slot on BBC Three which was a useful asset to have.

Definitely will be back. ITV and channel 4 don’t want it back because they made next to no effort to win the BBC Three audience over when it originally closed as a channel. It’s only now that BBC Three is coming back as a channel that ITV2 is attempting documentaries. Of course ITV2 has gone the way BBC Three did originally of over relaying on Family guy and American dad to fill the schedule up.

I personally don’t see a problem of BBC Three using imports even the original three between 2003 - 2016 had very few imports only really Family guy and American dad of any note on there although the first series or two of 24 might have aired on there as well.

It actually has enough of a large archive from the last few years to fill the schedule and they could even get away with showing some older CBBC shows such as wolf blood or Sarah Jane adventures in the 7-9 slots. They already have flatmates and get even for them slots as well.
Even some stuff such as pram face and sibling from 2012/2014 from the final years of it originally been could just about get away with repeat ones.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they repeat Waterloo road from the beginning either before the new series starts next year sometime.

Shows that BBC three could show from both its own archive repeats from one/Two Iplayer and some older cbbc shows.

Thirteen
Fleabag
Ladhood
In my skin
Murdered by and Murdered for one off dramas
Drag race uk
Killing Eve
The wheel
Doctor Who
Get Evan
Flatmates
Gossip girl
What we do in the shadows
His dark materials
The first team
Live at the Apollo
Radio 1 live lounge
Top gear
Class
Sarah Jane adventures
Pram face
The bump
In my skin
Siblings
Cuckoo
Superman ( new version)
Waterloo road
A teacher
MOTD X
Race around the world
Match of the day top 10
Wolf blood

Young offenders
Outlaws

That from the top of my head and yes some stuff is nearly a decade old but can still get away with it as still fresh. This is before we get to the new stuff so they really no problem of filling up a Schedule here. BBC Three as a limited online service has still produced more new content than either E4 or ITV2 has. Both of them are content to just repeat you’ve been framed family guy American dad Big Bang theory on constant loops. For the first few months at least BBC Three will have to make the effort I think that what worry’s ITV and Channel 4 as any of the target audience who are watching TV will once again have choice and a load of new shows or better programs at the very least. Let’s see if either of them launch any new shows as a spoiler and put anymore effort in but I don’t see it.
In ITV's case they have been planning to expand ITV2's original programming for a while, hence the documentaries they have commissioned. They are all airing first on the Hub though with the linear channel afterwards. It's a good step in the right direction but they have a long way to go

will 60 Seconds return albeit reithed?

So 60 Seconds isn’t coming back? That’s just sad. I always liked the sound when 60 Seconds came on and off. And it’s a shame to see that it isn’t returning.

But does this mean we’re getting some sort of new news programme?

Why would 60 Seconds return anyway, it was just 1 minute of the latest news headlines that was first introduced on BBC Choice in 2001.

There is planned to be a 3-4 minute news bulletin broadcast at the start of each weekday evening - discussed on pages 7 and 8 of this thread.

All systems go - Ofcom has approved the relaunch:

Key highlights are at least 75% of hours must be original programmes produced by the BBC for UK viewer with first run UK content across genres and weekday news. It will be top 24 on the EPG as expected.

Absolutely brilliant news. BBC Three deserves to have a linear comeback, scrapping the original channel in 2016 was a short sighted move that limited the BBC's potential across young people.

Other areas for the final decision are that it's unlikely to affect ITV2, E4 and Sky Max viewing figures other than a small loss of advertising revenue. ITV's responses were partially disagreed upon by Ofcom having read the document.

1st February 2022 is the latest by which BBC Three can relaunch. An absolute win right there
