GB News - hoffmeister - 08-12-2021

Anyone else really not like the new layout, I watched almost every programme everyday of GB news for first month or two, once they started presenting behind a breakfast bar again I have stopped. Only watch on a weekend at 10am when they present from a sofa. Why not keep the sofa instead of turning into Good Morning Britain layout?

I thought using the sofa with a One Show type magazine format for their right-wing skewed discussion was better than what they're using now. The too tight shot on the presenters presenting from the hotel reception/breakfast bar with no solo framed shots doesn't work for me. It also helped to reduce the noise from those cameras, while the current daytime sets make it worse.

Absolutely agree, was much better and new age with sofas, now it is just a mess with the cameras too close and the cold uninviting boring desks.

Allegra Stratton to GB News?

GB News - news727 - 09-12-2021

BREAKING: GB News is getting ready for int'l expansion. Seemingly, it's not simply making UK-based feed available in more countries through linear mediums (we already get that), but it's opening up potential for feeds containing local content (à la CNN).

Quote:Executives led by former Sky News Australia boss Angelos Frangopoulos are now focused on building an audience to rival that of Comcast Corp.’s Sky News, said the people, who asked not to be named because the discussions are private. They must also contend with the launch next year of talkTV by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp., which will include a show from controversial journalist Piers Morgan.

If they can overcome these issues down the line, parent company All Perspectives Ltd. is looking at how to push into countries including Germany, Italy, Spain and Poland, according to the people. That could be done with joint ventures melding its low-cost, cloud-based newsroom technology with presentation handled by local media groups, the people said. Possible partners discussed included German media conglomerate Axel Springer, they added.

Any expansion is not imminent, and a move abroad may not happen, said the people. Spokeswomen for GB News and Axel Springer declined to comment on the plans.

It doesn't sound like they're suggesting that, more creating similar channels in other countries backed by GBN's owners and using their operational model. It's a bit of a poor article though and the last paragraph suggests that Bloomberg isn't really that sure that it's accurate! It certainly doesn't sound like 'GB News Germany' etc.

GBN's mostly foreign owners have deep pockets and I can see why they'd want to try and expand their broadcasting interests, but to be honest the channel and it's operating model have hardly been a success. Why on earth do they think it's something that's exportable? If they want to take it elsewhere they really need to get their proposition right and established in the UK first. They've not even launched their radio outlet yet

GB News - CantGetIn - 09-12-2021

I can't see international expansion happening. They haven't even got a solid footing in the UK yet. At this stage purely an ambition.

GB News - Brekkie - 09-12-2021

Sounds like a faster track to bankruptcy - but in reality this project has never been about money and they'll be looking to exploit lesser rules on impartiality in areas where they're not regulated by OFCOM.

GB News - Jon - 09-12-2021

I’m not really sure what there is really anything distinctive about GB News that hasn’t come from elsewhere format wise. It’s not even as if anyone would want to replicate their sets or branding. In terms of the backend, was any of it built exclusively for GB News or is it all stuff ‘off the shelf’ software?

Either way, the only way I can GB News expanding in anyway, is if broadcasters are after their investment.

Interested to see your source - not doubting you, but some accounts on Twitter have a tendency of making things up about the channel...

Although if it's from a prominent media journalist it's most likely true.

EDIT: Ah, just seen a certain YouTuber (who isn't allowed to be named here I believe) claiming something's happening. I'd suspect that it's about a certain Mr. Holmes joining, but I'll wait until it happens before I believe it fully.

GB News - RR - 09-12-2021

Perhaps their radio channel is ready to start ?

GB News - Jon - 09-12-2021

I’d imagine it’s the Eamonn Holmes announcement.

Given the source, I thought it might be Jim Davidson, but I can’t see them putting him on breakfast.

GB News - Newshound47 - 09-12-2021

The original idea of more local news would have transferred better to different countries than the current format which is becoming more like the same news as everyone else but with more focus on the aspects of the story that are linked to the culture war.

GB News - JK1985 - 09-12-2021

So the rumour mill has it that a new breakfast show will be launched with a newly signed presenter - I have no idea if this is true, but that is the rumour.

To be honest, I have barely watched any GB News now since around September, I just got bored and switched off, I avoid all news programming now, and I feel this could be a problem with GB News, as there is certainly a good chunk of the population who are tired of news, news channels and their content.

For me, it is simply catching the headlines online at breakfast time, lunch time and around now in the evening online, and that is it. I bet many others are the same.
