GB News - news727 - 07-12-2021 Here's a story unfortunately involving GBN that none of us should be interested in. This one. GB News - CantGetIn - 07-12-2021 I understood the climate show on Sky was getting low figures all around although I haven't seen any newer figures. I guess it is something that the newer generations are going to be into but perhaps they haven't got around to watching a news channel yet! I do question the choice of producing an old style show, they would be better off focusing on social media etc. Maybe they already do as well. I'd imagine GB news will just do repeats over Christmas Day. Even Sky and BBC do a lot of repeats with the odd headlines or used to. I am tuning into GB news every now and then and slowly they are making progress. I think if EH gets a show then I will watch it regular. Austin has always been opposite the BBC/ITV national/local news hours. GB News is proving what they said before launch, that viewers will be drawn to APV rather than rolling News. Not sure what demo Sky is targeting with the Climate Show, but they're not watching in great numbers. Slot averages as low as 18k at 6.30pm are pretty dire. GB News - Brekkie - 07-12-2021 It's something they could get away with moving to on demand only if they didn't want to axe, but really the sort of thing which might find a better audience weekly. Although I think the point was it is a daily issue we should all be aware of in reality stories don't develop daily, but a weekly round up might be of more interest to a wider audience. I think that, along with a commitment to increase reporting within regular Sky News bulletins, would serve the issue better. As for Dewbs and Co - considering GB News has had a strategy of attacking especially the BBC and other traditional mainstream news broadcasters you would think the 6-7pm hour would be key for them, especially as a large chunk of their audience claim they never watch the BBC anyway. GB News - CameronYoung - 07-12-2021 I've had a thought - when did GBN first report on the major power cuts in NE England and Eastern Scotland caused by Storm Arwen that started about 10 days ago, and how much did they do? I can see why it appears to be easily beating Mark Austin/Climate Show on Sky News. It would be a great format for Stephen Dixon. The climate show is almost certainly designed for niche high end advertisers/viewers. The same as CNN with those Sailing shows which had few viewers but were sponsored by Land Rover and Rolex. They wanted those small but high net worth individuals. Pretty much every major car company is now pushing hybrid ads, McDonald's and even oil companies are talking up their green credentials. I can guarantee that an ad on the climate change show is worth far more than Farage with his toxicity. Cash for Gold and Funeral plan companies are more suited to his show GB News - James2001 - 07-12-2021 Adverts for Wetherspoons and Dysons can't be making much money for Farage ![]() I guess GB News have to bang on about The Climate Show anyway, as it's pretty much the only time they ever outrate Sky. GB News - soupie - 07-12-2021 Cando post_id=57325 time= user_id=1314 Wrote:im not sure Sky can be too smug about the adverts in almost all of its breaks: a combination of Michael Buerk flogging coins, plus appeals for lame donkeys.derek500j post_id=57310 time= user_id=1363 Wrote:London Lite post_id=57277 time= user_id=953 Wrote:I doubt GB News viewers are the demo Sky are targeting with the Climate Show. Austin is probably down because the 6pm slot is the main BBC One and ITV News hour to which their target audience are likely to watch over an opinion show. Also Sky’s climate show is mostly there to reflect the corporate aims of the company one assumes. Sky had a big presence at COP26 etc and this is an extension of that GB News - Aaron.TV - 07-12-2021 Cando post_id=57325 time= user_id=1314 Wrote:derek500j post_id=57310 time= user_id=1363 Wrote:London Lite post_id=57277 time= user_id=953 Wrote:I doubt GB News viewers are the demo Sky are targeting with the Climate Show. Would be interested in the source for this… True morally perhaps, but that’s about it. I make no comment on GB News, but I would be very surprised if Sky could command valuable, ‘high end’ advertisers to the Daily Climate Show slot - last time we saw, less than 16,000 people watch it. Given that Sky News bleeds money and records a substantial loss each year, I would be amazed if that particular slot delivers anything resembling profit. In fact, it surely has to be one of the slots losing the most money, given it demands separate resources to produce it than standard, rolling news. I highly doubt GB News will ever make any money before it collapses in the next 5 years (which seems fairly likely), but let’s not use a dislike of GB News alone to make up facts about its rivals. GB News - derek500j - 07-12-2021 James2001 post_id=57328 time= user_id=956 Wrote:Adverts for Wetherspoons and Dysons can't be making much money for Farage The latest figures reported by the Telegraph for the week ending 28/11 show that Sky was beaten by Farage every night, and not just marginally. The best being Monday 22nd where it was 172,900 v 47,900. And Sky's 47,900 was their highest for the week. Wootton's lowest two hour slot average for that week was 43,800. I expect his first hour is considerably higher, as Sky picks up with 10.30pm Press Preview. GB News - Gibsy - 07-12-2021 “Given that Sky bleeds money”…has this ever been confirmed by people in the know or does that statement continue to be used by people that assume or have read a similar comment by other people. It is also not as if News is making huge losses every year - AIUI it is in the low single digits. Some years - generally those without an election or massive global crisis - Sky News has made a profit. GB News - London Lite - 07-12-2021 As mentioned, the Climate Show is a tick box operation for Sky. It doesn't need a ton of viewers to watch it on a linear platform for it to be successful in the eyes of the business by the fact that Sky News airs a daily niche news bulletin which the BBC and GB News don't. Comparing it to an opinion show is like comparing Times Radio Drive to Jeremy Kyle on talkRADIO. They have different audiences, the same for Climate and Dewbs and Co. Whether it offsets the lower figures completely I don't know but suspect there is a bit of spin on it both to potential advertisers and within Sky itself. One thing we don't really see any news channel doing in the UK at least is targeting different audiences at different points of the day, and therefore tapping in to different ad markets at different points of the day. I would be amazed if being able to reach 16,000 climate change-conscious viewers (some of whom it will just be on in the background for) offsets the dire audience figures for the slot. The numbers are so small, it would be impossible to draw any meaningful conclusions regarding the spending or buying behaviour of the audience for advertisers. Indeed, you would actually reach more climate change-conscious viewers by accident by advertising on a larger show on a bigger commercial channel! |
