GB News - radiolistener - 23-11-2021 21 years for one broadcaster is a hell of a long time - even Alistair Stewart and Alistair Burnett had time away from ITN during their respective careers. GB News - Andrew - 23-11-2021 I wonder what sort of schedule they will put out over Christmas They don’t really have much of a ‘generic news with recorded back half hours’ to fall back on like BBC/Sky do GB News - BBI45 - 23-11-2021 TVViewer256 post_id=54785 time= user_id=1039 Wrote:This seems interesting. Worth noting though it’s only for one evening. Probably just having a slightly dumb moment, but what does it mean by it covering peak numbers compared to another measurement? The peak number is the highest amount of people watching at one time, for example a news show with an exclusive interview would likely have peak viewership when that interview was being aired.TVViewer256 post_id=54785 time= user_id=1039 Wrote:This seems interesting. Surprised at where he’s going but not surprised about a departure from Sky, it’s clear that Stephen had some public battles with other Sky talent. He had recently coming off social media and there were a few other bits floating around that sort of seems to say perhaps a move was on the cards in the not too distant future. I agree with others saying it seems like GB News have too many presenters really. Without getting into politics or personal opinions, if they could get content right, they’ve certainly got some presenting talent. GB News - Matrix - 23-11-2021 Just needs to sign Darren Grimes next... GB News - derek500j - 23-11-2021 LiamFitz28 post_id=54770 time=1637663457 user_id=1334 Wrote:Rob post_id=54756 time= user_id=2 Wrote:Stephen Dixon is joining GB News. He knows the issues Sky News is having! So pleased with this news, he is the one presenter I've missed since giving up on Sky News. I was its biggest fan since launch in 1989 until it started going too left of centre in the mid 2010's. GB News - bfgarmy - 23-11-2021 Goodness did not see that coming. Weakens Sky's weekend line-up even further - other than Gillian Joseph and at a push Jonathan Samuels or Kimberly Leonard it's a pretty inexperienced line-up and you never know who'll appear next. A good get by GB News but doesn't solve any issues they already had. And their response to any problems they have seems to be to hire yet more presenters and make their primetime content even more extreme. I wouldn't read too much into it though either like some are - a few fairly familiar faces leaving Sky News is part of the churn that can happen on news channels and shouldn't be taken as evidence that Sky News is in crisis/on its last legs. If that were the case then Sky News would've shut down in 2016 with the rate at which presenters were departing back then. And surely if Sky News were about to shut down you'd be hearing murmurs in the press. Likewise GB News signing up reporters/presenters/constantly launching new shows is no evidence it's in a good position. GB News - London Lite - 23-11-2021 I wish they'd spent a bit more money on production rather than talent, for a start those cameras are clearly not the right ones for their basement studio as they struggle against the lack of natural light. Compare the PQ of an OB on the breakfast show to the noise on the cameras which has been made worse since breakfast moved to the "hotel reception" set compared to the soft area previously used. There have been significant improvements in sound quality compared to the early days and I suspect the pilots aren't pulling their hair out as much now, but there are still issues to be ironed out. I always had him down as a Sky lifer. Good luck to him. Always enjoyed his shows on Sky. London Lite post_id=54779 time= user_id=953 Wrote:Weekend breakfast with Isabel perhaps? I reckon you're onto something there, though I don't necessarily think he'll be on with Isabel - I reckon they'll want to pair her back up with Eamonn Holmes. I would put money on them copying the old Sky arrangement, though, of having Eamonn on weekday breakfast and Stephen on weekend breakfast. bfgarmy post_id=54865 time= user_id=977 Wrote:Goodness did not see that coming. Completely agree there - I watched Sky News for the first time in a long time on Saturday and it was freelancer after freelancer presenting, none of whom I'd ever really heard of. Now I'm sure they're all capable, competent journalists, but the lineup was a far cry from 15 years ago, when you'd have Mark Longhurst, Chris Roberts and the aforementioned Mr Dixon on air, one after the other, every weekend. Do they ever have any single-presenter shots on the breakfast programme? I watched a bit of it the other day and Isabel Webster was interviewing someone down-the-line, but her co-host remained in shot, silent, throughout. Seems a little odd to do that. GB News - Aaron.TV - 23-11-2021 Back in September I mentioned they should reshuffle the presenters to make the best of the talent they’ve got, and actually I think with something like this they would be in a pretty competent place: Tom Harwood: 0600-0700 Kirsty Gallagher w/ Tom Harwood: 0700-1000 Alistair Stewart: 1000 - 1200 Simon McCoy: 1200 - 1430 Stephen Dixon and Nana Akua: 1430 - 1700 Colin Brazier: 1700 - 1900 Eamonn Holmes: 1900 - 2100 Nigel Farage: 2100 - 2230 Mark Dolon: 2230 - 1200 That’s a solid lineup IMO, regardless of what you think of the channel itself (though I still wouldn’t watch it personally!). Eamonn would genuinely be a huge coup for them, and would undoubtedly be their biggest name, so it would make sense to put him in the heart of primetime. I've never seen a solo shot on breakfast for the presenter. I've seen three fixed shots, one on the presenting duo, a wide shot and a tight head shot of a contributing guest in the studio. Right, thanks for answering. Seems a bit slack to me, but then this is GB News we're talking about. |
