There is absolutely no reason for the tabloids to be making this one up and from both the Andrew Neil fiasco and Eamonn and Ruth's own troubles at This Morning it is quite clear that there are well placed sources on both sides of this story.
If it wasn't true it would likely have been denied by now - and I suspect the reason they're yet to confirm it is they probably need to tell somebody they're being let go to make way. Indeed if he ends up at breakfast as some have expected it might be a handy get out clause for Simon McCoy.

Everything, and I mean everything in the tabloids is reported for a reason, and it’s silly
to think otherwise. Whilst it might not turn out to be true, you can always read something into these stories - often who might have fed it to them, and why, is more telling than the story itself.
If Eamonn was negotiating elsewhere (with Murdoch’s outlet, for example), who would it benefit if it was being reported that various people were interested in signing him up…

I don’t really get the idea that we shouldn’t discuss something that’s actually being reported in the mainstream press. That’s not to say it’s 100% certainly true, but I just don’t understand why you and others are so keen that nobody should even discuss the issue.
