Wimbledon 2021 - James Martin - 05-07-2021

The presser and the Six itself could always go on BBC Two. Not doing it for Emma could open a can of worms politically - cue "they'll do it for Murray but won't do it for a British woman" type comments.

Only if the DOC tests positive -contact tracing doesn't extend beyond one person.

The issue with that is the regional news still has to go on BBC One as English regions cannot opt out on BBC Two, so they may as well keep the Six there too.

Wimbledon 2021 - XIII - 05-07-2021

I think Emma would have been BBC Two anyway.

Wimbledon 2021 - Brekkie - 05-07-2021

The match before has just finished the first set, and I can't see Zverev losing 3-0 so I don't think Emma will be on court much before 6.30/7pm anyway. Based on her performances over the last week she deserves a bump up to BBC1, but obviously with Murray that decision was based on his performance over the last 15 years or so.

Wimbledon 2021 - MatthewFirth - 05-07-2021

OK so News at 6 and regional news = status quo. Is there a chance of returning Wimbledon to BBC One at 7pm?

Wimbledon 2021 - Meteor - 05-07-2021

Yes it does look like Raducanu is going to reach court at a prime-time friendly time, and of course this is the last day it can happen (no more than two singles matches per show court from this point).

I agree, she deserves BBC1. But judging from Sue saying "we will follow the story of Emma on BBC2", sounds like it's not going to happen.

Wimbledon 2021 - MatthewFirth - 05-07-2021

We have a dilemma. Rain has started (and is unlikely to stop this evening). Luckily with roofs, Emma may still play this evening but she may have to change court or come back tomorrow if one of the two matches goes to 5 sets (since it may end after 8 pm).

What would happen if the match is postponed and Emma's match (or if she wins her quarterfinal) clashes with Euros' semi-final coverage?

Wimbledon 2021 - dvboy - 05-07-2021

There is a roof on No 1 court, they can play there until 11pm. If it goes beyond that it would resume as the second match tomorrow, so probably around 3pm.

Usually they put the women's fourth round matches on early as they all have to play tomorrow. Really poor scheduling, especially if the reason they've done this is at the request of the BBC to chase ratings. Whoever wins out of Raducanu and Tomljanovic has a significant disadvantage to their next opponent.

Wimbledon 2021 - Meteor - 05-07-2021

Pictures on BBC2 are about 8 minutes behind live, presumably to minimise the gap Wimbledon are leaving between previous players going off and next ones coming on (think it's 15 minutes, down from 30)

Edit: feels increasingly naff that Murray was put on One while Raducanu is being kept on Two. Must be an amazing episode of Garden Rescue

Wimbledon 2021 - XIII - 05-07-2021

You can’t compare Murray to Emma, she’s a new player whereas he’s a known quantity. I assume the reason it’s remaining on BBC Two is because BBC One has new content at 9pm rather than repeats

"Welcome viewers on BBC One"

Here we go again ??
Welcome back to musical channels

Wimbledon 2021 - Meteor - 05-07-2021

WTF?! BBC have switched channels! About 10s warning and they were off-air on Two

Edit: was actually 28s from the moment Claire began speaking to BBC2 stopping.

What happened on BBC1? Did they interrupt EastEnders?

Impressively the Freeview EPG has already updated, though Gold Rush is still shown as beginning at 9pm. Hope that's wrong...

Wimbledon 2021 - Brekkie - 05-07-2021

Not even updated the EPG. Fair play though - they didn't need to but after doing so three times last week when they didn't need to either they left themselves with little option.

Wimbledon 2021 - jms - 05-07-2021

Maybe a very last minute decision as there was no pre-warning from Clare. Bad time to move half way through a game and why the need to cut to that wide shot?

Wimbledon 2021 - Meteor - 05-07-2021

I wonder what will happen to Gold Rush. Have actually been looking forward to that for some time (I've been waiting years for someone to write a book on that story, so was chuffed when I saw the BBC had commissioned a documentary)
