If they prioritise football over Murray I'll eat MY hat.

Your table is ready sir. Remember to scan in for test & trace, and inform the waiter if you want any further condiments with your hat.

Well, blow me down and call me Barbara.

Good choice too. Not the best match

Wimbledon 2021 - Brekkie - 02-07-2021

The Wimbledon gods have been kinder to the BBC tomorrow with Norrie v Federer second on Centre Court, so should be done in time for the evening, whilst Emma Raducanu is first on Court 1.

Gardeners' World got moved over to BBC Four.

No Today at Wimbledon again although they have found 15 minutes for a round-up.

I don't know why they bother with Today at Wimbledon when it rarely airs in full.

The chatter at the start of the programme while there is tennis being played winds me up so much, no more so than today. BBC Two spent 25 minutes on Sue Barker and Anne Keothavong chatting, mostly about Emma Raducanu, went to the match on Court 2 which was already in the seventh game, and got one point in before play was suspended for rain. I don't expect them to be able to predict when the rain is coming but they knew it was likely at some point and could have saved some of that chat for later given the likelihood of having to fill time before play on the courts with roofs begins.

I bet it was as calm as anything. Although I haven't been involved with Wimbledon for a long time, moving between networks was something that happened all the time.
The various court scanners all fed into the CMCCR (later the DMCCR) and they had both network outputs from there.
It required matrixing in the vision / sound desk into whichever feed was going to move, quickly doing any intros or outros and then putting the matrix to the next feed, and then doing the same with the other network.
They knew exactly how long they had, and would make sure everyone knew what they had to do.

As we did it for 2 weeks every year it was a well oiled machine.
(I still smile at remembering the PA one year as we went on air for the first time sayng "two weeks to stopping talking!")

Completely agree and what a farce that was, especially when with it being Saturday they were on air at 12.20pm on BBC1 anyway and I suspect probably spent 40 minutes building up to the match anyway.

If the football can start coverage an hour before play surely Wimbledon can start 15 minutes or so (half an hour is way too much chatter).

Great match though and hopefully she's the real deal, though I think Sue's prediction of Emma being on all the front pages tomorrow seems unlikely given tonights match. Sue been let out of the studio too to host firstly on Court 1 and then in almost exactly the same position on Centre.

I actually quite like the 11am chat. Sets the day up nicely. If there's a match I particularly want to watch I use an iPlayer stream (though that wasn't working on Monday morning).

It was quite interesting that they went to a mixed doubles from yesterday evening (played while Murray was losing and the football was on BBC1) and stuck with it when live play restarted. It was an entertaining match but I did switch to Kerber via iPlayer (who looked like she was heading out when the rain began).

Raducanu is fantastic. A breath of fresh air.

Wimbledon 2021 - Brekkie - 03-07-2021

Agree - that 15 minute game was so epic. Worth noting they aired last nights doubles without the "R" graphic too. Obviously we see less rain breaks now on the main coverage due to two courts having a roof but always though they should just show matches from other courts during rain breaks - they used to be far too quick to switch to archive footage.

I don't think anybody is saying they shouldn't open the show with some chat, but it shouldn't be at the expense of live coverage. It's also very different joining a match at 5-1 compared to 2-1 or even 3-2.

P.S. Order of play now confirmed for Monday and although not getting a day on Centre Court Emma Raducanu is on Court 1 and rather unusually scheduled as the third match. Usually they schedule the womens games early on the second Monday due to the quarter finals being on Tuesday.

Yeah, they'd be better off doing it as Yesterday at Wimbledon before the next day's coverage starts, instead. Then it won't be pre-empted because the tennis hasn't actually finished when it's due on.

Not sure many people are going to tune into it at 10am.
They should just make a commitment to making the programme, at whatever time and whether it airs on BBC2 or not. I seem to remember it debuting at it's normal time on the red button in the past when play has gone on late, and then getting a repeat on BBC1 or 2 after the news/Newsnight

I'm not sure how test and trace works in this kind of context, but given the Duchess of Cambridge has had to self-isolate because she was a close contact of someone who has now tested positive for coronavirus, I wonder if someone's going to tell Tim Henman he might need to self-isolate since he was a close contact of the DoC last Friday......... if that happens, it would mean he wouldn't be present in the Wimbledon coverage but could throw into question how many others he might've been close contact since Friday. Be interesting to see if Emma Raducanu gets the Murray treatment tonight as the last Brit standing in the singles and being third on Court 1, thoughI believe Boris is having a press conference at 5pm which may throw a spanner in the works.

A BBC News Coronavirus Update is now confirmed for BBC 1 at 4.45 pm so Emma Raducanu looks likely to be on BBC 2.
